Duty and Responsibility of Dean:
- Supervise the teaching-learning, research and community service and support activities of
the college. - Follow up the implementation of AC decisions and the strategic plan of the college.
- Review the internal structure, policies and regulations of the administration of the college
and make recommendations to the AC. - Execute or cause to be executed policies and directives issued as well as decisions and
orders given by the college AC and Senate. - Establish relationship with local and foreign higher education institutions in consultation
with appropriate organs where he finds it useful for the realization of the objective of the
college, signs and implement agreements concluded on behalf of the college. - Represent the college in all its dealings with third parties.
Produce and disseminate approved quarterly and annual reports on the activities of the
college as well as other necessary reports to AC, concerned process owner and other
stakeholders. - Follow-up and support schools within a college, departments and centers and support teams
to discharge their duties and responsibilities effectively. - Maintain standard support services so as to create conducive working environment.
- Propose to the AC the establishment of new programs, and revision of existing programs,
research units, and research centers as required by periodic need assessment, dissolution or
amalgamation of programs. - Ensure the balance between teaching, research and community service of the college by
working in close collaboration with the departments. - Honor the accepted code of ethics for academic, research and community service works.
- Contribute to meet the needs of the college, departments, research centers, and research
units in terms of academics, research and community service process. - Maintain the college employment plan by actively searching excellent academic staff on
fulltime or part-time basis, on the request of departments, either from Ethiopia or abroad. - Create award system and promote and present for award staff of the college.
- Mobilize resources in order to achieve strategic plan of the College.
- Initiate national and international research and community service fund and keep the track
for those already exist. - Establish linkage between the community and the academic unit for effective
accomplishment of the core processes. - Initiate and support the establishment of business enterprise.
- Encourage and support income generation for the University through consultancy and
community service projects. - Advertise and manage the intellectual asset of the academic unit to enable the university
income generation aspirations. - Organize the academic unit’s annual academic and research work plan.
- Promote the core processes of the academic unit among customers and stakeholders
through open houses and the media. - Initiate and inculcate team spirit in the office to accomplish effectively and efficiently the
teaching-learning, research and community service activities of the academic unit in
particular and of the University in general. - Ensure recognition of creative performances and outcomes.
- Coordinate continuing education programs, professional development courses, seminars,
workshops and similar educational programs. - Coordinate the formulation of criteria for admission of students to the academic unit and
departments and participate in the placement of the same. - Plan and implement the welfare of both staff and students.
- Ensure the proper maintenance of student records in the academic unit according to
accepted standards of record keeping involving index, tracking of record movement, the
security of custodianship and staffing accountability. - Following endorsement by the academic affairs vice president, signs and implements
agreements concluded on behalf of the college. - Submit quarterly and annual reports to the academic, research, technology transfer and
community service vice president representative on the activities and financial affairs of the
college. - Carry out any other relevant tasks assigned to him by the academic, research, technology
transfer and community service vice president and the AC. - Conduct performance evaluation of department heads, vice dean and coordinators under
his/her supervision
